Craig Murphy Selected as New COO for Affordable Housing Trust for Columbus & Franklin County

Murphy comes to AHT with 25 years of experience in housing affordability and public sector work.

Craig Murphy, an executive leader with more than 25 years’ experience advancing public-sector and nonprofit initiatives, was hired as chief operating officer for the Affordable Housing Trust for Columbus & Franklin County (AHT), a nonprofit lender that works with the private, nonprofit and public sectors to develop affordable housing opportunities in Columbus and surrounding counties. He begins his new position this week.

As COO, Murphy will report directly to AHT’s president and CEO Ian Labitue and will be responsible for providing leadership of the organization’s day-to-day operations, ensuring effective coordination, alignment and performance across all core functions.

“Craig is a community-focused leader with extensive experience in operational leadership, capital planning and community development,” Labitue said. “He also has a strong background in public administration, affordable housing and strategic planning. What stands out most is how much he cares about the mission and about the people he works alongside. With his impressive level of knowledge and expertise and his genuine passion for service, we know he’s going to make a positive impact on the colleagues who now get to work with him, our borrowers and stakeholders, and the communities we serve.”

Murphy comes to AHT from the city of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, where he worked for more than eight years. He most recently served as deputy director, leading a team focused on capital planning, conservation, design and construction, data management and strategic planning. Before that, he worked more than 14 years at Homeport, a nonprofit housing developer based in Columbus. As the organization’s chief strategy officer, he led strategic planning, business model development and performance measurement.

“I genuinely love the mission of the Affordable Housing Trust and look forward to helping the organization build on its success so we can make an even bigger difference in central Ohio,” Murphy said. “Affordable housing isn't just a policy issue for me. It’s personal. I've spent much of my career trying to make sure people in this community have a shot at quality affordable housing, and I couldn't be more excited to keep doing that work here.”
